We are back with our long-awaited, frequently-asked-about
"Networking for Success Panels". Come and network with the rest
of us; Turkish-American business professionals from all industries
ranging from biotech and telecom to real-estate and investment
banking, entrepreneurs and students, in a casual atmosphere.
“Networking
for Success Panels” are designed primarily to provide information/guidance

Networking for Success Panel
speakers will be - we have a new speaker:
Nepi Ilgaz: Nepi Ilgaz currently serves as the Vice President of
TestCountry, a distributor of home-based medical test kits and diagnostics. Prior to TestCountry, Ilgaz was
the program director at CONNECT, where she oversaw CONNECT’s affiliate
programs with the SD MIT Enterprise Forum, the NIH Commercialization Program and Entrepreneurial Activities and served as liaison for the Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology. Before
CONNECT, Ilgaz was director of commercialization at the SD Regional Technology Alliance,
was a senior business development manager at Alitum, and a manager at Deloitte &
Touche. An active member of the San Diego business community, Ilgaz was a former advisory board chairperson of the Forum For Women Entrepreneur’s San Diego Chapter.
She was an advisory board member of Ventureforth at the UCSD and SDSU’s Entrepreneurial Network. Ilgaz also served on the board of directors of the
ATASC, San Diego. She served as a principal advisor for the NIH Commercialization Program (NIH CAP) and a reviewer for the Emtek Fund and CCAT program in San Diego. In 2004, Ilgaz was a finalist for the Women who Mean Business Awards in San Diego.
Tugrul Sengul: Mr. Sengul is
a marketing and sales professional
with with 13 years of international business experience. He is
currently the
Director of Business
Development at
Continuous Computing
Corporation in San
Diego. Prior to that, he worked at various
senior marketing and sales management positions at Ericsson and IBM in Sweden,
Austria and the United States. He
was the past president of the ATASC-San Diego and is one of the
founding members of the Swedish-Turkish Academicians Association in
Stockholm, Sweden. During his college education Mr. Sengul was an
active member with Student Clubs at Middle East Technical University
in Ankara, where he earned his bachelors’ degree.
Dr. Murat Karsi: Dr. Karsi is the president and founder of
Tosia
Communications Inc., a communication systems research, development, design and support services
company. He has led several government and commercial communication
systems design projects for which Tosia Communications is chosen as a sub-contractor.
A well recognized expert in communications systems theory and design, Dr.
Karsi received his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from USC specializing in digital communication systems.
Prior to founding Tosia Communications Inc., Dr. Karsi held several senior technical management and engineering positions at Prominent Communications, Ellipsis Digital Systems, IBM, Texas Instruments, Alantro Communications, and CommQuest Technologies.
Dr. Karsi is a senior member of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and he is the inventor of several patents and author of several publications on digital communications systems.
Dr. Cahit Akin: Dr. Akin has been a venture partner for ITU Ventures, an early-stage venture capital firm, since 2001 where he is currently the principal.
Dr. Akin received his Ph.D. and M.S.E degrees in Electrical Engineering and M.S. in Mathematics from University of Michigan Ann Arbor.
He holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Bilkent University, Turkey.
Dr. Akin has managed the Adaptive Systems Laboratory out of Cal-IT2 at UCSD, a $12M project, which spun off 2 start-up companies. He was the founder of Respectrum, Inc. and he co-founded and invested in
Mushroom
Networks, Inc., where he is also the CEO and a board member.
Previously, Dr. Akin worked as a senior analyst at a boutique marketing consultancy firm on Wall Street. Dr.
Akin has worked on technical and research aspects of communications for over 7 years and has authored several patents and publications.
He was the recipient of the NATO Graduate Study Scholarship award. Dr.
Akin was a member of the Turkish national team in the 1993 International Mathematics Olympiad and ranked 3rd in national university
entrance exam.
